Statement of Concern

Libraries are the heart of our communities, providing vital resources, fostering lifelong learning, and creating opportunities for all. To ensure their continued impact, strong library advocacy is essential. The Illinois Library Association plays a critical role in amplifying the voices of library workers across schools, universities, and public libraries whether in small towns or large cities.

To strengthen our advocacy efforts, we must highlight the real stories of how libraries transform lives. By sharing concrete examples of library programs, services, and innovations, we can showcase the essential role of libraries in education, workforce development, and community engagement. These stories demonstrate the value of libraries and serve as powerful tools for ensuring continued support at both the state and local levels.

Engaging with ILA members is a key part of this work. By collaborating across library types and communities, we can build a unified voice that protects and supports library interests. I am committed to working with ILA to expand public policy and advocacy initiatives that ensure libraries remain strong, well-resourced, and able to serve future generations.
