Instructional Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate library lessons that support early literacy, information literacy, and digital citizenship.

  • Introduce students to various genres, authors, and reading strategies through interactive read-alouds, storytime, and hands-on activities.

  • Integrate technology tools into instruction, such as tablets, educational apps, and online library catalogs.

  • Teach students how to locate and select books based on interest and reading level using library organization systems (e.g., picture clues, spine labels, or colors).

  • Support student inquiry and exploration through guided research and library-based projects.

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate library resources with grade-level curriculum.

Library Management:

  • Maintain an up-to-date and diverse library collection appropriate for early learners, including picture books, nonfiction, early readers, and digital resources.

  • Organize and circulate books, periodicals, and media through an automated library system.

  • Process new materials, weed outdated or damaged resources, and maintain a welcoming and developmentally appropriate library environment.

  • Monitor book returns and overdue notices and maintain accurate inventory records.

Technology & Digital Literacy:

  • Model and teach responsible use of digital tools and online resources to young students.

  • Assist students with age-appropriate software, eBooks, and interactive literacy tools.

  • Manage technology used in the library (e.g., interactive whiteboards, iPads, computers) and provide support to teachers and staff as needed.

  • Stay current on educational technology trends and recommend tools that enhance literacy and learning.

Professional Collaboration & Communication:

  • Foster a positive and inclusive library culture that encourages curiosity and independence.

  • Communicate regularly with families about library programs, book fairs, and student reading goals.

  • Collaborate with administrators and grade-level teams to ensure alignment with school literacy initiatives.

  • Advocate for library services and participate in school-wide literacy and technology planning.

  • Other duties as assigned by administration.

Requirements

  1. Current Professional Educator License registered in Region 5

  2. Licensure endorsement of Library Information Specialist

  3. Experience working with early childhood and/or primary grade students

  4. Strong knowledge of children’s literature, early literacy practices, and educational technology 

  5. Experience using tablets, interactive boards, and digital literacy tools with young children

  6. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable
