The Head of Youth Services is a key position at the Lillie M. Evans Library District, and we are seeking a positive and enthusiastic librarian who enjoys working with children, teens, and families. The library is located in Princeville, a small village in north central Illinois. We are located within 20 minutes of Peoria with access to entertainment and sports venues, Bradley University, shops, and restaurants. In addition, the LME Library is on the Rock Island Trail, a stunning rail-to-trail system extending 39 miles to the Illinois River. This is a supportive, rural community that understands and values libraries and the services we provide.

The Head of Youth Services is a part-time position with regularly scheduled hours per week, occasional evenings and some Saturdays, plus fill-in as relief for staff vacation and sick leave. Primary responsibilities include planning and implementing all children’s programming; engaging with youth and creating a positive, enthusiastic, and supportive environment; and collaborating with staff members to advance the library’s mission and ensure seamless operations.

This is a 32-hour position. Hours will not vary but may be negotiable.  Benefits include vacation, sick time, paid holidays, and participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF).  Starting salary: $17-$20 based on qualifications and experience.

Education and Experience:

Associate’s degree or higher in library science, child development, or education or a minimum 3-years’ experience working with children and teens and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Experience with program development and implementation, preferably in a public library setting, is highly desirable.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Skilled in using and troubleshooting library technology, including computers, equipment, digital resources, and Microsoft Office software
  • Ability to learn integrated library software system (SirsiDynix Symphony)
  • Excellent customer service skills and telephone etiquette
  • Communicates effectively in English, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment
  • Ability to display high levels of attention to detail
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of patron records
