Legislative Update -- March 27, 2025

March 27, 2025

Illinois General Assembly News
Friday, March 20, was the deadline by which all bills that were filed this year must pass committee or be re-referred back to the House Rules or Senate Assignments Committee and precluded from further consideration. There were thousands of bills scheduled for committee hearings last week; a fraction of them were advanced through the committee stage.

We've updated the bill monitoring on the ILA website. It only contains proposals that received committee approval before the deadline and remain on the legislative calendar today; consequently, the size of our bill tracking list has shrunk considerably.

Friday, April 11, is the bill origination chamber passage deadline before the Illinois General Assembly adjourns for April recess. After that date, we will have more information.

Show up For Our Libraries
After a short recess, all Congressmembers are now back in D.C., and that means it’s time to act. We need all library supporters to call their members of Congress and urge them to protect federal funding for libraries from the Institute for Museum and Library Services.
