March 6, 2025
March 6, 2025—The Illinois Library Association (ILA) has announced the recipients of the 2025 ILA Inclusive Travel Grants for National Conferences.
The $2,000 grants provide Illinois librarians and library staff from populations underrepresented in librarianship the opportunity to attend a national conference of their choice.
-
Natalie Aguirre, youth services manager at North Riverside Public Library, will attend the American Library Association 2025 Annual Conference and Exhibition in Philadelphia, PA, June 26-30, 2025.
-
Rubi Arreola, children’s reference associate at the Waukegan Public Library, will attend the American Library Association 2025 Annual Conference and Exhibition in Philadelphia, PA, June 26-30, 2025.
-
Valerie Simmons, director of the Four Star Public Library District, will attend the 2025 Association for Rural & Small Libraries Conference in Albuquerque, NM, September 17-20, 2025.
Eligible recipients include librarians and library staff from populations that have faced structural barriers to national participation, including those eligible for ALA’s Spectrum Scholarships (those who identify as American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian, Black/African American, Hispanic/Latino, Middle Eastern/North African, and/or Native Hawaiian/Other Pacific Islander); people with disabilities; people who identify as LGBTQUIA+; and rural librarians or library staff.
The grants, supported by ILA’s Diversity Scholarship Fund, are intended to make the library field more accessible to all, via direct support to our colleagues. Grants are awarded in rounds depending on available funding and conference dates.
