ILA 2023 Conference Preview
Illinois Association of College & Research Libraries Forum (IACRL)
September 27, 2023by Robin Harris, Northeastern Illinois University
The 2023 Illinois Library Association Conference will be held October 24-26 at the BOS Center in Springfield, Illinois. This year’s theme, “Connect, Cultivate, Collaborate,” focuses on finding our commonalities while working and growing together, and still acknowledging and respecting our differences.
Featured Academic Library Speakers
The conference will kick off with a keynote by Dr. Emily Knox, an internationally recognized expert on intellectual freedom and book challenges, who teaches at UIUC’s School of Information Sciences. Her most recent book Foundations of Intellectual Freedom won the 2023 Eli M. Oboler Prize for best published work in the area of intellectual freedom.
Also of interest to IACRL members is the IACRL Luncheon, held on October 25 and featuring Fobazi Ettahr, whose research focuses on the gap between values of librarianship and the realities for marginalized librarians and library users. She also focuses on inclusion, equity, and diversity in libraries, and the notion of vocational awe as related to librarians.
IACRL Unconference
The IACRL Unconference will be held 8:00 -10:00 AM on October 25, and will provide a space for academic library workers to network, share ideas, and discuss topics.
