Derek Blaida to Join ILA's Advocacy Team
December 21, 2015The ILA Executive Board has approved a proposal from our long-time Legislative Counsel, Kip Kolkmeier, to expand our efforts in Springfield by adding lobbyist Derek Blaida to our advocacy team. Blaida is a highly experienced local government advocate with 16 years of experience working with Illinois legislators and executive agency officials. As both a legislative advocate and attorney, Blaida is well known and well respected at the state capitol. He is a 1998 graduate of the University of Notre Dame and a 2001 graduate of DePaul University College of Law.
Advocacy is a fundamental mission of our association. Adding Blaida to the team will allow Kolkmeier to serve in the newly created position of ILA General Counsel, as well as continuing to oversee our advocacy efforts. Blaida will work on the ground in Springfield, participate in Public Policy Committee and Executive Board meetings, and provide crucial updates to our members on the latest Springfield developments. We welcome him to our team and look forward to using his experience and skills to advance the interests of Illinois libraries.
