How did you get your start in libraries?

I was late coming to the profession. Looking back, I think I was always destined to become a librarian; I just took a roundabout way to get here.

Best advice you've received since starting your career in libraries?

To choose a few interests to focus on. There are so many opportunities in the library world - you can't "specialize" in everything. It's best to choose a few areas to give your attention.

Any advice to newcomers working in libraries?

Listen and observe - there is something to be learned from every interaction, every situation.

When and why did you become a member of ILA?

When I first started my career - it's a great way to connect with others and learn about the profession.

How has being a member of ILA helped you professionally?

The greatest help has been the networking and sharing of ideas - meeting others in the profession and also learning how other libraries operate.

What is your proudest professional achievement to date?

Truthfully, it's seeing the impact of the day-to-day work - someone checking out a book you selected, or a student applying something they learned in your class.

Audiobook and paperback.
Favorite authors?

Susan Elia MacNeal, Deanna Raybourn, Jenn McKinlay, Tracy Clark, Alica Blanchard, and Krista Davis.

Cat or Dog?

Dog!

Favorite film, podcast, or television show?

Christmas in ConnecticutReading Glasses, and Longmire.

One person you would like to meet, dead or alive why?

Bette Davis - I'd like to absorb some of her spirit!
