Resources & Technical Services Forum (RTSF)

February 19, 2025

The Resources and Technical Services Forum (RTSF) of ILA supports library staff working in all areas of technical services, including cataloging, acquisitions, processing, collection development, and collection management through professional development and networking opportunities.

RTSF meets twice per year–once at our annual conference, where we elect forum leadership and discuss continuing education needs, and once in the late winter, where we plan our conference programs for the ILA Annual Conference.

In 2024, RTSF sponsored four programs at the ILA Annual Conference, including panel presentations on MARC fields and inclusive subject access, a how-to session on using blended Dewey for better access to nonfiction collections, and the annual unconference, where attendees select the topics for discussion. Planning for RTSF programming at the 2025 Annual Conference is kicking off, and our annual conference planning meeting will take place on Tuesday, March 4 at 9:30 AM on Zoom. Register to attend here.

If you have a conference program idea and are unable to make the meeting, please reach out to forum manager Nanette Donohue (nanette.donohue@gmail.com). We are also happy to assist potential presenters with their program ideas, including locating and recruiting co-presenters.

In addition to continuing education activities, RTSF administers the TBS, Inc. Technical Services Award, which honors an individual who has made a substantial contribution to library technical services, and the RTSF Scholarship, which covers registration and expenses to attend the ILA Annual Conference. The nomination deadline for both the TBS, Inc. Technical Services Award and the RTSF Scholarship is May 15, 2025.

Whether you are currently working in library technical services or have an interest in the field, RTSF is a place for you! If you’re interested in joining us, please fill out the ILA Forum Interest Form, and we’ll be in touch!
