ILA Announces the Launch of More Than a Building Campaign
The Illinois Library Association (ILA) is pleased to announce the launch of More Than a Building, a statewide campaign that delivers resources to assist Illinois library professionals as they work together for safe and secure libraries, and that empowers library supporters across the state to stand with and show support for libraries of all types.
The past few years have seen a spike in threats to libraries and personal attacks on library workers, volunteers, and patrons across the country, including here in Illinois. The campaign includes resources to help frontline workers, administrators, and boards center safety and wellness of all who pass through the library's doors. It also includes toolkits for the library community and library supporters with concrete and actionable steps to reaffirm the value of public, academic, and school libraries to communities across Illinois.
ILA Executive Director Cynthia Robinson said, “ILA is committed to working across our association and in partnership with librarians, libraries, and organizations throughout Illinois to support workers, engage with our communities, and advance the public good. We stand with our colleagues in condemning any threats intended to diminish Illinoisans' rights to engage in the free exchange of ideas.”
Illinois libraries are More Than a Building. Illinois library professionals remain steadfast in their commitment to advancing literacy, connectivity, health, lifelong learning, and opportunity; and to safeguarding the preservation, access, exchange, and incubation of ideas.
Find out how you can support your local library by talking with your librarians and visiting the More Than a Building Library Supporter's Toolkit.
More Than a Building is made possible by support from the Illinois State Library using funds provided by the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services, under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act.
