SUMMARY: Library Director is appointed by the Library Board of Trustees as the chief administrative officer of the library.  The Director is responsible to the Board of Trustees for implementing all the policies and decisions of the Kewanee Public Library District as adopted by the Library Board.  The Director directly reports to the Library Board. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Serves as Professional advisor to the Board, including orientation of new Board members.  Helps establish and revise all necessary library policies.  Carries out all library policies as adopted.  Directs the day-to-day operation of the library, including managing staff.  Maintains all library records.  Develops and manages the library budget and is responsible for fiscal matters and tax funds in consultation with the Board Treasurer.  Directs the technology of the library with awareness of new and developing trends.  Oversees development of the library’s collection.  Supervises maintenance of the library facility.  Knows state and national library laws and actively supports state and national library legislation.  Promotes the library through an active public relations program in the district.  Represents Kewanee Public Library District in the community, in the library system and in the library community state and nationwide.  Coordinates goal setting and planning for the library’s future.  Seeks out grants and writes grant proposals. 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises the Department Heads and oversees the other staff members.  Responsible for the scheduling of staff.  Evaluates the Department Heads, the Bookkeeper, and Janitorial Services on an annual basis.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Must have strong oral, written, and digital communication skills.  Good interpersonal skills are expected. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to meet the physical demands of the job.

Requirements

A Master of Library Science degree from an ALA accredited library school or equivalent.  Professional library experience with 3-5 years of library administration experience.  Ability to work well with people.
