Why Did You Become an ILA Institutional Member?
The support, resources and connections ILA provides are fantastic. From conferences and events to articles and recognition, ILA makes the Illinois library community stronger and we’re proud to be a member.
The Best Thing About Being an ILA Institutional member?
Knowledge sharing! We appreciate all the opportunities ILA provides us to learn from other libraries. And we like being able to give back and pass along what we have learned to help other libraries in the state.
Fun Facts about the Library
-
We currently offer bilingual storytimes and other early literacy programs in five languages: Spanish, Japanese, Polish, Gujarati, and Ukrainian.
-
The renovation of the 2nd floor of our Central Library will be complete this spring! We’re excited to offer our community an innovation center for individuals, groups, and small businesses to collaborate, discover, learn, and create; more study rooms (available now!); a dedicated copying, scanning, and printing area; more restrooms; a quiet room dedicated to the local history of Schaumburg; and a variety of additional seating options.
Popular Events and/or Programs with Patrons
Last fall, we opened a time capsule that was placed in a cornerstone of our Central Library when it was built in 1998. This was, by far, the most popular event we’ve hosted in years with more than 850 people in attendance in-person and another 300 watching online. You can learn all about the 1998 time capsule and the new one we placed in the cornerstone in 2023 here: SchaumburgLibrary.org/time-capsule.
Favorite Event
Our community truly enjoys coming together to read great books and then discuss their themes through our One Book, One Community. And this initiative continues to grow each year. Our community especially appreciates coming to the Al Larson Prairie Center for the Arts in Schaumburg to hear from the author each year. We’ve been fortunate to host bestselling authors Min Jin Lee, Brit Bennett, William Kent Kruger and, later this month, Angie Kim.
