Palatine Library Executive Director Dilger to Retire in July 2024
December 4, 2023Palatine Public Library District Board of Library Trustees announced that Palatine Library Executive Director Jeannie Dilger has given notice that she is retiring from libraries on July 7, 2024.
Dilger has worked in libraries for 38 years, including the last six years as Executive Director at Palatine Library. Prior to coming to Palatine, she was Executive Director at LaGrange Public Library for ten years.
As Executive Director at Palatine Library, Dilger led the Board’s referendum efforts to increase funding for the Library, as well as bringing in nearly two million dollars in state and local grants over the years. She oversaw the 2020 renovation of the public spaces at the Main Library, North Hoffman Branch, and Rand Road Branch, which included adding the new Workshop, creating the Teen Space, and providing more study rooms throughout the Library. She also spearheaded the Library’s move to join the CCS catalog consortium, providing residents access to over five million items.
Within the community, Jeannie has served in various roles on the Palatine and Hoffman Estates Chambers of Commerce and the Rotary Club of Palatine. She is currently co-chair of the board of Partners for Our Communities (POC).
Board President Debby Brauer notes, “Jeannie has played a key role in improving services and access in our community by facilitating some well-overdue improvements.
Although we are sorry to see her leave, we are confident that she leaves Palatine Library in good standing. We are grateful to her for her excellent service over the years and wish her the best in her next endeavor.”
Dilger stated, “I have been privileged to finish out my career at Palatine Library District, which so clearly values working with and serving the community. The Board and staff are committed to providing stellar service to all members of our District. With a new strategic plan in place, I know the Library is well-positioned for the future.”
The Board of Library Trustees has begun the process of searching for a new executive director.
