Run for ALA Office by Filing Electronic Petition
Illinois Association of College & Research Libraries Forum (IACRL)
October 8, 2016(via the American Library Association)
Interested in running for ALA President-Elect or Councilor-at-Large, but weren’t approached by the Nominating Committee? You can still get your name on the 2017 spring ballot by completing a petition form and obtaining the signatures of no fewer than 25 ALA current personal members. A petition form may be created by going here and following these instructions. In addition to the petition itself, members must complete the Petition Candidate Biographical Information Form. Once the petition process is completed, petition candidates and nominated candidates are treated exactly the same. They are not differentiated on the ballot, because they are on equal footing and are all viable candidates for these positions.
Beginning with the 2017 elections, the period for filing petitions runs from the first Wednesday in October through the first Wednesday in December. The petition form for the 2017 election became available on Wednesday, October 5. This form, along with the biographical information form, must be filed with the ALA Executive Director no later than 4:30 PM CST on Wednesday, December 7. Ballot mailing for the 2017 ALA election will begin on March 13 and will run through April 5, with the results being announced on Wednesday, April 12. Individuals must be members in good standing as of January 31, 2017, in order to vote in the ALA election. Additional information about the ALA election process can be found here.
