Forum Spotlight - Young Adult Services Forum (YASF)

Young Adult Services Forum (YASF)

March 10, 2022

The YASF (Young Adult Services Forum) provides resources and opportunities for library staff serving teens through meetings, programs, professional development opportunities, and social media.  We give Illinois library workers the chance to learn, share ideas, problem-solve, and strengthen their library teen services together.

At the 2021 ILA Conference, we sponsored presentations on teen volunteers, Discord servers, and take-and-makes, and co-hosted a Youth & Young Adult Unconference. At our February professional development meeting, we held a roundtable discussion of some of our biggest successes and challenges in our work today.

Every year from February through April, YASF runs a Tournament of Books, a 32-book bracket of the finest young adult novels published in the previous year. Illinois librarians submit reviews and the books battle it out to determine the winner. Keep up with this year’s competition on our blog.  At our Tournament of Books page, you can see an overview of this year’s bracket, vote in the People’s Choice bracket, and see past years’ reviews–an excellent reader’s advisory tool!

YASF sends representatives to the iRead Committee, IYSI Committee, and Youth Services Forum. A committee of our members selects the winner of the Young Adult Library Professional of the Year Award.

Any Illinois library staff or students interested in services to teens are invited to join us for an upcoming meeting. You can read minutes from past meetings to see what is typically discussed.

For more information on YASF, see our ILA page, join our Facebook group, follow us on Twitter, or join our Google group. Have questions? Email us!
