In a recent survey of 24 libraries in several northern Illinois counties, facility upgrades are the number one ranked spending area. And average expenditures per capita were $118.51. Nearly half of the libraries reported carrying debt with average indebtedness of nearly $5 million (this figure includes data from 63 libraries in the public record). These and other points of comparison might interest your board and your administration as they review and plan for the future.
