Census 2020 Update
June 13, 2019Plans for the Decennial Census continue apace! A number of new resources have been added to our curated set on the ILA web site, including a video provided by Rock the Vote to encourage Census participation, "Libraries and the 2020 Census" from ALA, information about local complete count committees including a link to see if there is one in your community, and materials from an extremely informative presentation by Chief Deputy Director of the Illinois State Library, Joe Natale, first presented at Reaching Forward South in Carbondale on May 17. Mr. Natale will also be presenting on the Census at the ILA Annual Conference in Tinley Park, October 22-24, 2019. What librarians need to think about now: 1) Find out if there is a complete count committee in your community, 2) Planning for enabling all people to use public access computers to complete the census, regardless of residence or library card status. On the federal level, we are awaiting any moment a decision from the U.S. Supreme Court regarding the placing of a citizenship question on the Census.
