Scholarly Communication RoadShow at U of I
Illinois Association of College & Research Libraries Forum (IACRL)
March 12, 2018Andrea Jakubas
Illinois Institute of Technology
The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, in collaboration with CARLI, was chosen as one of five host sites for the event, “Scholarly Communication: From Understanding to Engagement RoadShow.” As sponsor, ACRL covers most of the cost of this otherwise fee-required workshop. The RoadShow will be held on Friday, May 4, 2018 at the I-Hotel and Conference Center in Champaign, Illinois, and will be led by RoadShow instructors Carla Myers from Miami University Libraries and Rachael G. Samberg from the University of California at Berkeley.
Harriett Green, Head of Scholarly Communication and Publishing at the University of Illinois, states that “we are excited to host the RoadShow at Illinois because it gives us an opportunity to bring more librarians into the local conversations and initiatives on scholarly communication, most notably and recently CARLI's Institutional Repository Task Force and Open Educational Resource Task Force, and here at the University of Illinois with the brand new Illinois Open Publishing Network.”
Online registration for this free workshop is first open to CARLI members from February 19-March 21, with a limit of 2 attendees per CARLI institution. Registration will then be open to all others interested from March 22-April 4. Because space is limited, later registrants may be added to a wait list.
If your institution would like to host its own Scholarly Communication RoadShow, information about applying for the subsidized version is available through ACRL. Green recommends partnering with other institutions or organizations when applying, in order to maximize your potential reach and audience. In addition to the Scholarly Communication RoadShow, there are several other workshops, covering a range of topics, available from ACRL for a fee.
