If you are passionate about children's services, librarianship, and serving the community, we'd like to hear from you! We are seeking a Children's Services Manager to join our team! The Children’s Services Manager provides the leadership and management for the development, implementation, and evaluation of Children’s Services. Oversees all related Children’s Services activities, including but not limited to collection management, children’s programming, reference services, and community partnerships.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides operational direction and hands-on leadership to the Children’s Services Department.
  • Provides supervision, motivation, coaching, and discipline that leads to the future success of staff. Hires and trains new staff. 
  • Develops a high-performing team with a diverse set of skills and talents; encourages collaboration and knowledge sharing to foster a supportive environment.
  • Delegates work assignments, gives authority to work independently, sets expectations, and monitors delegated activities. 
  • Models best practice behavior in customer services, accountability, communication, collaboration, and adaptability; establishes clear expectations for staff.
  • Collaborates with Leadership Team to develop and implement goals and recommends changes to department.
  • Ensures the effectiveness of all children’s services, programming, and collections through ongoing evaluation to meet the changing needs of the community. Prepares statistics and reports for management review as needed.
  • Ensures staff develop the knowledge and skills to provide programs that supports the needs of the community.
  • Oversees collection maintenance including selection recommendation, weeding, replacing and analyzing; collaborates with Collection Services and other departments to ensure the relevance, quality and effectiveness of library materials to meet community needs.
  • Identifies and develops outreach and partnership opportunities within the community; encourages and supports staff participation.
  • Functions as the lead in charge of all building issues while on duty as Person-In-Charge.
  • Observes safety and security procedures and ensures staff training.
  • Attends professional development opportunities.
  • Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned.

  • Proactive self-starter with strong analytical skills and problem-solving abilities; identifying and resolving problems efficiently; gathering and analyzing information objectively and thoroughly.
  • Flexibility and change management skills to assist with organizational shifts in priorities.
  • Ability to make timely decisions and de-escalate conflict, exhibits sound and accurate judgment, remains calm in difficult situations.
  • Strategic planning and project management skills; develops effective and realistic action plans. 
  • Communicates information regularly and effectively; managerial courage to communicate concerns and problems that need to be addressed.

Requirements

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master of Library and Information Science degree (ALA accredited college/university).
  • Leadership and management experience preferred.
  • Minimum three years of library-related experience.
  • Bilingual proficiency a plus.
