Statement of Concern

I am honored to be nominated to run for Secretary of IACRL. I began my library career as an instruction librarian at North Central College in Naperville, Illinois. From there, I went on to a position in reference and instruction at Northwestern University’s Schaffner Library. I am now at DePaul University, where I am currently the coordinator of reference, instruction, and academic engagement and liaison to the Theatre School.

Throughout my career, I have always looked for ways I could learn from and support other Iibrary workers, from my early work leading continuing education workshops for the Chicago Metropolitan Library System, to my participation in Synergy in 2008, to serving on the organizing committee of the Illinois Information Literacy Summit. I am currently serving as co-chair of the 2019 Illinois Library Association Conference planning committee, and I am a mentor for CARLI Counts, a new IMLS library leadership program designed to help academic librarians in Illinois communicate the impact of their libraries. I am a long time member of ACRL, and have served on the Instruction Section’s membership and pre-conference planning committees. My instruction work fostered my collaboration with my co-editor, Troy Swanson, on our 2015 ACRL publication, Not Just Where to Click: Teaching Students How to Think About Information, which received the 2016 ACRL Instruction Section Ilene F. Rockman Publication of the Year Award. Librarians have so many excellent ideas to share, and we are fortunate that ILA and IACRL provide a framework for facilitating cooperation and communication amongst Illinois libraries. I would welcome the opportunity to work with the board and membership to do my part to enhance the capabilities of Illinois academic libraries to serve the needs of their communities.
