Statement of Concern
Growing up I was never the fastest reader, I stumbled through reading aloud in class, and it was hard to find books that held my interest. The biggest factor that guided me towards being a lifelong reader were the people who continued to share stories that mattered, because they saw that I mattered. It is the advocacy for literature and building a love of reading that drives my passion for the library.

In a time where libraries are heavily scrutinized and are often overlooked, the Illinois Library Association is a powerful advocate for both librarians and readers across the state. They support the continued efforts of the libraries that provide access to knowledge, helping foster intellectual freedom, and supporting the needs of the community they serve. From an increase in book challenges to funding uncertainty, it is so important that the people advocating and serving this association are dedicated to supporting the needs of readers both in the community and the classroom.

As a brand new librarian I cannot offer years of experience from within the library, however, what I do bring to the table is a huge passion for advocating for all readers. When we enter the world of education we are asked to define our educational philosophy, I have found that as I have transitioned from classroom to library, my philosophy has remained the same, “with”. Every motivation that propels my profession forward has come down to this one word. It means to be open to new ideas, be willing to collaborate to find solutions, and provide understanding to those you work with and serve.

I look forward to providing fresh ideas and perspectives as I work to provide a voice for school librarians across Illinois. I am eager to listen, learn, and contribute to the Illinois Library Association’s ongoing efforts to support and uplift librarians across the state. I am committed to being part of that mission, ensuring that all librarians—whether new or experienced—feel connected and valued.

The future of libraries is bright when we work with one another. I am honored to pick up the torch of those who have fought for “freadom” before me, and I look forward to contributing to the strength and success of the Illinois library community.
