The City of Pella, Iowa (population 10,464), located 45 miles southeast of the Des Moines metro area, is seeking a Library Director. Under the general direction of the Library Board of Trustees and City Administrator, the Library Director provides professional leadership including planning, developing, implementing, directing, and overseeing the Pella Public Library’s services and programs. The Pella Public Library’s mission statement is to enrich our community by welcoming, creating, and nurturing curious minds and supporting lifelong learners.

Requirements

Qualifications include ALA accredited master’s degree in library science and a minimum of three years of related library management experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

The ideal candidate will possess the following attributes:

  • Ability to draw upon the collective potential of various stakeholders including library staff, Friends of the Pella Public Library Board, and Library Board of Trustees.
  • Desire to nurture growth and empower library staff to grow and excel.
  • Community-minded approach and commitment to customer service excellence.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills for interaction with a variety of individuals including patrons, board members, and library staff.
  • Desire to be involved in the community as a representative of the Pella Public Library.
  • Committed to welcoming and supporting lifelong learners.
  • Ability to manage financial resources in a resourceful way for short-term needs as well as long-term strategic planning.
