Jane O'Brien Award
Presented by the Illinois Library Association.
The award recognizes a library support staff person who has made
an outstanding contribution to the library community.
Rationale
The award recognizes the contributions of a support staff member
to the library community and to the role of support staff in libraries.
Eligibility
The nominee should be a personal ILA member or be employed
by an institution that is an ILA member.
Selection Process
Letters of nomination will be accepted from November 1, 2007ĈMay
15, 2008. A panel of judges will be selected from the Reaching Forward
Committee and will be responsible for choosing the recipient. The
panel must work with the nominations received in accordance with
the established timetable; in the event that no deserving nominations
are received, panel members may not then nominate a recipient.
Criteria
Criteria is based on achievement in five categories:
- service to the library community;
- significant contribution to ILA and/or related organizations;
- creation and/or development of library program(s) and/or service(s);
- demonstration of leadership qualities; and
- encouragement and recognition of support staff.
The candidate who has made a significant contribution to the library
community in more than one category and the significance of the
contribution made will be among the deciding factors in presenting
the award.
Written supporting reasons for the nomination of a candidate must
be provided. Only complete nominations will be accepted.
Award Winners
The recipient will be presented with a plaque.
