POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Director, the Head of Reference Services Librarian is responsible for supervising and providing all reference services to the public, including staffing of the reference desk, maintaining the Reference and non-fiction collections, overseeing Adult Programming and filling in as needed with Adult Programming. This position consults with Director and Technology Assistant, insuring all technology issues are handled in a positive, service- friendly manner. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Essential Functions)

  1. Reference Desk Services:
    1. Supervise and manage Reference Department; including all Reference Desk services.
    2. Be pro-active in providing Reference Services, including outreach options and roving Reference.
  2. Supervision:
    1. Supervise and assist Reference Librarian/ Program Coordinator with Adult Programming.
    2. Apply for appropriate grants, offer suggestions for technology and reference improvements.
    3. Compile monthly and annual Department Reports and send to Director via email; run other reports as needed. Assist with annual reports;
  3. Material Selection:
    1. Collection development for Reference, Adult non- fiction print, audio and video, online databases and Audio Nonfiction CDs, DVDs and other electronic formats.
    2. Maintenance of Reference and Non-fiction shelves through weeding and shelf-reading.
  4. Work effectively with coworkers and the administration with an attitude of enthusiasm, loyalty and teamwork.

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Attend Staff meetings and Dept Head meetings.
  • Handle other duties as assigned.

Overview

The Alliance Library System seeks a Director for the Mid-Illinois Talking Book Center to lead the operations of a sub-regional Talking Book Center. Job functions will include:

Planning, directing and supervising all activities for management of library service for the blind, visually impaired, physically handicapped and learning disabled residents of the Talking Book Center service are

  • Development, management, control and evaluation of the Talking Book Center's annual budget and plan of service
  • Preparing reports as required by the Illinois State Library, the Alliance Library System, and the National Library Service; an
  • Planning and supervising outreach activities.

Applicants should possess a broad understanding of the multi-type library structure and a broad understanding of local, state and national library trends; have the ability to effectively present and communicate ideas, concepts and policies verbally and in writing; and the ability to effectively organize and prioritize work and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

A Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited library program is required; five to seven years library experience in a professional position, five to seven years management experience, or any equivalent combination of experience is required.

Salary for this position will be $57,400 to $86,100 depending on experience and qualifications. The Alliance Library System offers the following benefits:

The award winning Arlington Heights Memorial Library is seeking a flexible, experienced professional librarian to lead our Cataloging team. Uses knowledge of cataloging and metadata standards, newer technologies, and future-oriented library catalog projects and trends to seek ways to make bibliographic and item databases more useful to patrons and staff, both in-house and remotely. Maintains database accuracy and flexibility, as well as database authority control. Provides guidance and supervision for Cataloging Clerks and Cataloging Librarian.
